Huge Audacity Files

Audacity is a fantastic tool for recording sound and putting together podcasts.  It is fantastically simple to use and even better it is an open source software, which makes it even better because it is free to use.  There are some negative aspects to it if you work with limited space as would be found in most student accounts on a server.  Audacity files when saved as Audacity files with the file extension .AUP is an extremely large file.  One method I have come up with to get around this problem as well as force kids to learn how to use more of the tools in Audacity, is to record my podcasts in chunks.  After each chunk has been recorded I have the students export as an MP3 each time they are finished.  After all the parts are completed they can then use Audacity to put all the pieces together and order them.  In this way, I am never saving a large Audacity .AUP file that will fill up my students server space.

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who essentially knows what they’re talking about on the internet. You as a matter of fact know how to bring an issue to light and make it almost necessary. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
