Terms and Definitions

• Network: two or more computers communicating and sharing with each other

• LAN: local area network, covers a small area like a home or office building

• WLAN: wireless local area network

• WAN: wide area network that covers a large area like a city or the Earth (the Internet)

• Modem: converts a signal from one form to another- usually analog to digital

• Router: The central device of a home network.
