The Pixels: Digital Citizenship Dream Team is a book of poems centered around various topics of digital citizenship. Each topic has a poem and some tips for kids to help them put what they are learning, into action. It is a great book for teachers and parents to use as a conversation starter around these important topics.
The poems are about a team of kids “The Pixels” and how each one of them shines in a specific area of being a digital citizen. For example, Web Pixel is a girl who knows about creating secure passwords, and Cubit Pixel is an upstander who stands up for what is right. Dbug Pixel is an expert at sharing just the right types and amounts of information online and never overshares. Java Pixel knows how to build a positive digital footprint and Gui Pixel shows their ability to not let phishers get thier information.
Other areas where the Pixels shine, are using social media for good, giving credit where it’s due, knowing how to spot fake news, being respectful even when you disagree, having a good media balance, and visiting appropriate websites. They also make use of a Family Media Agreement that helps everyone in the house create a positive culture around technology and media use.
It is hoped that these poems will be used at home and in the classroom to help parents and teachers and children learn how to navigate the digital world.
